Privacy in your home from prying eyes on the outside has always been important to people. There are a variety of different types of window treatments that people use to keep that privacy. They use curtains, drapes, blinds and shades. These are great to keep out the sun on hot days as well as give your home privacy when wanted. Probably one of the least used type would be window shutters for the inside of the house. Most people think of the outside of the house when it comes to shutters.
There is no reason that you can not use window shutters to add privacy. Not only do they provide great privacy but they also add a unique elegance to the room as well. Depending upon what style you get, they can add a lot more to your window treatment than other types, especially blinds.
If you come to the decision that you might like to try to add shutters to the inside of your windows, below you will find easy steps that will make your job of installing your shutters a lot easier.
There are a variety of different types of things that you will need in order for you to complete this project. You will need the shutters of course, the hardware that comes with your shutters, a saw, screwdriver, paint or stain, polyurethane, paint brush, tape measure. Depending upon what kind of shutters you get will determine the materials that you will need to be able to complete the project. The ones mentioned here are the most commonly required items.
Before you begin you need to decide whether or not you want the window shutters to be installed on the inside of the window or if you would rather have them as outside mounts. Since the window frames are rarely perfectly square, probably the easier route would be to use an outside mount.
We will go with the outside mount here for easier installation, this will take less time and gives you more flexibility with regards to how you hang the shutters. With outside mounts you can hang shutters vertically or horizontally.
The first thing that you will do is mount your hanging strips along each side of the frame of the window. Now you will take the shutter panels and hinge them together with face mount hinges that are supplied by the company that made the shutters. Make sure you have a spacer between each of the shutter panels so that you will be able to close the shutters easily.
Now you will take the hinges and connect them to the shutters, make sure to follow the shutters manufacturers instructions on how to place the hinges on the shutters. You will now want to make sure to mark holes on the hanging strips so that you will know where to connect the hinges at. Once you have done that, you can go ahead and drill holes for the screws for the hinges.
The final installation step is to actually attach the shutters to the hanging strips.
Final note: If you decide to buy unfinished shutters, it is advisable that you paint or stain them before you install them. And if you have louvered shutters it will be a lot less time consuming and easier to use spray paint for these types of shutters.

The monthly mortgage payment is one of the most expensive debts most of us pay each month. Unfortunately, the recent housing and economic crisis has left many homeowners struggling to keep up with their mortgage payments. If you are on a tight budget, there a number of ways you can reduce your monthly mortgage payments and alleviate the overwhelming financial stress. Below are a number of tips on paying and reducing monthly mortgage payments.
1. To counter the effects of the housing crisis and prevent foreclosures, the Federal Government and mortgage lenders have come up with mortgage programs that allow homeowners to take advantage of reduced mortgage interest rates. If you are having troubles paying your mortgage, this is a good time to approach your lender about refinancing your mortgage for a better rate. By refinancing, you will have a lower monthly mortgage payment.
If possible, try to get a long term fixed mortgage such as a 30 year mortgage because a fixed rate will not fluctuate if the markets start to decline. As well, if you are shopping your mortgage around for a good refinancing deal, check to see if a real estate agent or lender will waive such fees as the application fee. Getting a low interest rate and avoiding extra fees are key factors to getting a good mortgage refinancing deal.
2. A helpful tip on paying your mortgage payment is to pay a significant amount on the principle of the balance owing. If you pay a large amount on the principle, you may be able to get rid of the mortgage insurance payment which will decrease the amount you pay each month.
3. The longer you have a mortgage, such as a 30 year fixed rate mortgage, the less you will have to pay monthly. If you are applying for a mortgage or refinancing, try to get a long term mortgage. As well, if you can afford it, put a large chunk of money down on the mortgage as it will lower your monthly payments.
4. Often people find them in situation where they cannot make their mortgage payments because they have too much debt. For instance, credit card bills, student loans, medical bills, and the bills racked after purchasing homes for sale and etc, can be financially overwhelming. One solution is to get a debt consolidation mortgage loan. When you consolidate all of your debts into one loan, you will only have one monthly payment and one interest rate. You could end up saving thousands of dollars.
5. Always pay your mortgage on time so that you can maintain a clean credit report. Remember, a clean credit report is valued by lenders and will stay with you through life. It will also help you get a better refinance deal. If you have outstanding debts on your credit report, try to pay them off. Consider debt consolidation as a way to clean up your credit rating.
If you find your self in a situation where you are having problems paying your monthly mortgage, there are many steps you can take to avoid foreclosure. By doing so, you will be able to get some much needed financial relief.

If you already know how to make your own natural soap without lye, then you are the exception to the rule. Lye is stilled used today commercially to bind the ingredients of soap together. Soap contains lye so that it is able to break down once it comes into contact with water. If too much lye happens to get into soap, then it can actually cause skin burns. Although lye is a very caustic agent, in proper quantities it can relieve the symptoms of poison ivy and eczema and it can remove stains better than bleach.
Using natural soaps has its advantages. It is usually glycerin based, so it will leave your skin feeling soft and moisturized. There are also many ingredients available to natural soap makers that are not possible to use with lye soaps.
One of the options with natural soaps is that you can use essential oils. With a glycerin soap base, more complex and creative molds can be used along with a wide range of colors. Flower petals, dried leaves, and even freeze dried fruits can also be used in naturally made soaps. Also, right after the process is done, the soap is ready to be used.
For the soap making process you will need a double broiler or a crock pot and soap molds. For the actual soap you will need glycerin soap base, essential oils or fragrances, coloring, and melted cocoa butter. You will want to make sure that all of these items are prepared.
Make sure the temperature of your cooking utensil is hot enough to melt the soap without boiling it. Place the glycerin soap product into the cooking utensil. Wait until all of the moisture has been removed while making sure that the mixture does not bubble. Add your color choice and blend it in until the coloring is even. Then, add in the fragrance that you have chosen. Next, stir in the cocoa butter until the mixture is even and smooth. Once the mixture is completely bonded together, pour it into the molds you have set aside. Once they are cool to the touch, they are hard enough to try out.
The process of making natural soap is actually rather simple. That is, as long as you follow procedure as it is given to you. Using a natural soap will leave your skin feeling moisturized and fresh after just a couple of uses.
Did you know that you could make soap? There is nothing more soothing than natural soap. So, why would you want to use those store purchased soaps that have all of those harsh cleaning chemicals when you could make your own?

The most efficient windows are double glazed windows. These are windows made with two panes of glass held together by a channel. They are vacuum processed. Solvent pellets are added to the channel to keep moisture out of the system.
This system makes for an airtight seal so that air does no go through the windows the way air passes through a single pane window. With a single pane window you are basically heating and cooling the outside. Find a reputable window company to install the windows.
Ask friends for references if they have had the work done. And go online and research the company you are considering. If there are a lot of bad comments then look for another company. Ask about what guarantee the company offers on the products and on the work.
Some cannot afford all of their windows to be replaced. If you cannot do this then have the room you are most in remodeled. Then go to the next most used room as you save money to remodel. And because the windows are sealed you need to inspect them before they are installed.
The glass inside is inspected at the plant but if there is a little smudge on the inside of the window it cannot be cleaned because it is sealed. Check to see if any defects were missed at the plant before you give the go ahead to place them in your home. Double glazing Newport is a good way to save money on your energy bill.

Soap was originally made through the combination of fats and oils, water, and lye. These days, commercial soaps are almost always made from entirely synthetic materials. These can be irritating to the skin, and may aggravate conditions such as eczema. People who are concerned about the quality of the soap they use, its health benefits and impact on the environment often choose to make soap by hand, using all natural ingredients. Read on for a description of natural soap making kits and procedure.
Home kits
There are many commercially available kits that come with all the ingredients necessary to produce soap at home. They come in two types: ‘cold process’ and ‘melt and pour’ soap kits. The former is the more popular option.
Kits often favour the use of oils derived from vegetables, grains and nuts as these are chemically superior to animal fats, are more readily absorbed by the skin and won’t clog up pores or cause eczema. Ingredients used in kits might include avocado oils, palm oil, Shea butter, edible coconut oil, essential oils, dried herbs, botanicals and food grade pigments.
Precautions when using lye
Lye is also known as sodium hydroxide or caustic soda. This substance is necessary to convert fats and oils into bars of soap. Precautions are necessary as it is highly caustic, and can burn your skin if it splashes on you. Rubber gloves and eye protection should be worn, as well as clothing with long sleeves, and shoes. If possible, use it outside, as the fumes can irritate your lungs. It is very corrosive, so don’t get any on your walls or it will peel the paint off.
What to do
A combination of water and lye is added to melted fats and oils, all prepared to the same temperature. For specific instructions, follow the directions included with your kit, or read a soap-making recipe.
The prepared mixture is poured into a suitable container, covered and left for twenty-four hours or so. Then, when it’s set, it is cut into bars. These should be left for a further three to eight weeks to cure completely.

Christmas crafts don’t have to be complicated or expensive. Nothing is more fun for kids than spending time together with you creating simple fun Christmas ornaments out of a pile of silly things. Take some time this holiday season to create delightful little ornaments with fun Christmas crafts that you and your kids will both love! Let’s see what we can make!
Candy Cane Reindeer: One of the most fun and fast traditional Christmas ornament crafts for the season is this cute little googly eye reindeer. You’ll need some candy canes, brown pipe cleaners, small googly eyes, small red pompoms, thin ribbon, and a small jingle bell.
To assemble, take the brown pipe cleaner and twist it forming a V shape under the hook of the candy cane bending the pipe cleaner around into the shape of antlers. Glue the googly eyes onto the candy cane “face.” Glue a red pom pom on the candy cane for a nose. Tie the thin ribbon around your reindeer’s neck and string the jingle bell on for the final touch! These are perfect little ornaments for your Christmas tree or wreath.
Noodles Wreath: Noodles, or pasta, is a great material to work with. It’s inexpensive and paints up very well. You’ll need some noodles of various shapes and sizes, some sturdy paper plates, some craft glue, poster paint or craft spray paint, and ribbon or other embellishments to decorate the wreath.
Assemble by first cutting a hole out of the middle of the paper plate so you end up with a wreath form. Pick out your pasta and start gluing it all over the wreath form. Try to cover as much of the surface as possible, even overlapping the pasta if you can. Then paint with whatever you have chosen and let the paint dry. Then glue on the ribbon and other embellishments to make your wreath pretty. Keep making them! You’ll want in each room!
Cinnamon Cookie Cutter Ornaments: These smell pretty, look pretty, and make great gifts, too. Start with gathering your ingredients and tools. You’ll need 4 tablespoons of regular white glue, 1 cup of ground cinnamon, and about 1 cup of water, maybe a little less, for your dough. You’ll also need a baking sheet or cookie sheet, a straw or toothpick to form a hole, cookie cutters, and some ribbon or string.
Mix all your ingredients in a big bowl, pouring only some of the water in, then mixing and adding more water if you need in order to get the dough like sugar cookie dough. Put it in the refrigerator for 2 hours. Sprinkle a little cinnamon on a cutting board and knead the dough with your hands until it’s nice and smooth. Then use a pastry roller and roll the dough out evenly until about 1/4 inch thick. Cut out your shapes and poke a hole in the top for a hanger. Put your shapes on a cookie sheet and set in a warm oven for about 2 hours. Remove, cool, and tie pretty ribbons through the holes. Now you can give them as gifts or hang them from your own tree.
You’ll find there are many simple Christmas ornament crafts for kids to make for every age group. When you’re looking at your little ones waiting with great expectation for the big day to come, give them a fun project to keep their hands and minds busy, and keep a smile on their face!

Family’s are often caught up in so many plans during Christmastime that sitting down together over a fancy dinner may not be a good fit. Your family members may be traveling and have to head out before dinnertime, or you may be expected to eat at several homes and can’t fill up on a big meal at each home. Or, you may simply need to watch the food budget and can’t justify the expense that a big sit-down meal usually entails.
If you are considering your family’s budget, big sit-down dinners tend to be more expensive than even the nicest brunch. The menu for a big dinner will normally include a large meat main course, numerous side dishes, and many fancy desserts and candies. The beverages served during a formal sit-down dinner in the evening will typically include fancy drinks, wine, and after dinner drinks. In other words, a big dinner can add up to a lot of money.
For families who are struggling trying to enjoy Christmas while sticking to a budget, a brunch may be just what they need. If travel plans and sharing meals at more than one household are a problem, a brunch may solve that problem, too. Take a look at some simple, yet delicious, ways that you can plan a meal that would suit such a festive occasion.
Brunch Casserole – Recipes for these dishes are too numerous to count! Assembled the night before your brunch, this is probably one of the most popular of all the time saving dishes you can make. There are a variety of combinations of ingredients to consider, beginning with hash browns, bread, ham, sausage, onion, green pepper, broccoli, and cheese. This is held together with a generous portion of egg, baked and served hot by cutting into square segments, similar to lasagna.
Skillet Dish – A skillet meal is very easy to prepare quickly and with relatively little fuss. There are many recipes to choose from, like this familiar favorite, a Frittata. This is typically a skillet of fried rice or potatoes with a variety of meats and vegetables added. Then eggs are poured over and the Frittata is cooked without stirring until the eggs firm up. Cut into wedges right in the skillet and serve just as it sits. Use a nice cast iron pan for a pretty and homey appeal.
Muffin Tin Meal – Make individual little pot pie style dishes by forming a crust in the muffin tin with some refrigerator biscuits. Mix up some egg, hash browns, cooked sausage or bacon, or any other breakfast foods you like, and fill the cups. Bake them and serve them warm. These are not only cute and delicious, but you can make a variety so everyone can have something a little different.
Omelets – This item on your menu won’t work for you if you don’t want to cook while you have guests in your house. If your kitchen is far removed from the area where your family and friends will be mingling, you probably wouldn’t want to prepare omelets. However, if your house is set up with an open kitchen dining room area where you’ll be gathering right around the cooking area, then you may find this fun. Be sure to get all your prep work done well in advance so that you are ready. Wash and chop all the veggies you are using in the omelets and get the assembly line well organized so you don’t miss a beat.
Prepare a variety of food and fill your brunch buffet with lots of choices and your guests won’t be disappointed. Add a tray of fresh fruit, some coffee, tea, milk, and juice, and your brunch is complete. Don’t forget a simple assortment of cookies to finish off the meal. No fancy pies, cakes, or candy for brunch. Some of your guests could be on their way to another meal!
You don’t need to spend a lot of time or a lot of money on a nice Christmas get together. These simple ideas for planning a brunch can help get your family together for a nice meal, without all the fuss. Enjoy your Christmas celebration!

This holiday season everyone is looking for ways to save some extra money on their Christmas shopping. This makes a lot of sense especially with everyone trying to find the best deal and keep as much of their money as possible afterward. This is because most families are already on tight budgets and getting some of the items on loved ones’ wish lists. This is why finding as many ways to reduce costs when shopping becomes so important to do. So how do you make it possible to pay less? For the newbie that might seem as a pretty difficult task beyond the average sales and discounts that you are aware of. However all it takes is the knowledge of where to look and how to combine savings to get the most bang for your buck. Here are some great suggestions to help you get started.
It may seem trite to say but coupons work. They help you to chip away at the overall cost of your purchases by taking off a couple of cents here and a couple of dollars there. You may only know of the coupons that you use at the supermarket, however, there are coupons for just about any item you can buy. Knowing where to find them and how to best combine them for serious savings is a must if you want to get the most out of your holiday shopping. First you can find coupons online. There are some great websites with coupons that you can use. You just need to Google them. However, be warned. There are sites out there that will try to scam you. Confirm any coupon you get with the store or product they are far. It is as simple as calling the customer service line. Also try to avoid any sites that want you to pay to get the coupons. Another place to look for coupons is in the junk mail.
Another source for great discounts is by shopping at Big Box stores. These are stores like Sam’s club that sell many items that you want on your holiday list in bulk. This allows you to find many of these items at discount prices that will help you save more money on your holiday shopping. If you are already a member of such a store then take advantage of it. If not go to the nearest store near you and sign up for a membership. It has become increasingly affordable to join in recent times. Some of other benefits of shopping at a big box store are selections and great return policies. For buying electronic and many toys, you will be able to find great name brands at prices you can afford. You can also have pretty good return policies in case your purchase doesn’t turn out all right.
A good source for saving is the spam you get in your email. Like junk mail every now and then you will get some great offers from some of the stores you like to shop at. Also for the makers of some of your favorite items you can find information on rebates and other great discounts. If you are not receiving mail from them you can get some by registering for newsletters at their websites.
