Were you lucky enough to be raised in a house that had a day room? This predecessor to the sunroom is a fully enclosed area with solid walls that are lined with windows. The reason this area has fallen into lesser use is because of the more open design of the sunroom. If you have a day room that is looking old and cramped you can improve this room in three simple steps. By adding color, a few simple decorations, and an area rug you will give your room a face lift that is sure to please.
Begin your make over by adding color. Because of the time period that these rooms became popular most of their walls are covered with wooden paneling. Strip this off or simply paint over it. Consider a Dutch theme for this type of room. The light blue, bright red and green, and sunny yellow will perk up your space. These colors will provide easy access to accessories that will blend well. They will also reflect light making the room appear larger. Colorful accessories should also be used.
Don’t add a lot of accessories into the day room though since most of them are small all that will accomplish is a crowded cramped up area. Adding in a few pictures of tulips is a great way to bring a bit more color to the room. Putting up light curtains that will let the sun in will also help to brighten up the room nicely.
Area rugs are another dual purpose accessory. Unfortunately anyone stylish enough to build a day room was also stylish enough to install stone flooring. I say unfortunately because these create a very cold environment. An area rug allows you to cover a small space in the room keeping the natural appearance of the stone floor, but warming the room at the same time. An area rug also protects your furniture. My mother often used our day room as a breakfast nook and whenever she would have the good table and chairs in the room they sat directly on the rug so that the stone floor would not cause the wood to splinter.
A day room or sunroom is a nice little addition to any house, so why not take advantage that you have this room. Don’t use it as a storage place, but liven it up and use it for a resting place or a place where your family can play games. Make the room be a bright place where you can make some great family memories!

Southwestern-themed homes are very popular because they are part history, part fantasy and all comfort. Get the old Wild West into your personal space with the bold colors, period items and Native American designs that are all signatures of this look. One of the key things you have to remember to get this look is to make use of typical ‘cowboy’ items, leather accents and silver items. For more inspiration, just take a look at any cowboy movie to find more key pieces you could add to your home.
Deep, strong colors on the walls are important for the Southwestern approach to home decor. Keep the walls solid and plain, adding some interest and design with Native American prints. Pillows and throws are some of the more popular items for adding that Native American touch in a room. They give that impression of a comfortable, inviting space without being too visually imposing.
Masculine upholstered furniture is another important factor for achieving the Southwestern theme. Get furniture pieces made of dark woods. Scratched, faded and worn furniture are a better addition to a Southwestern room because the distressed look better creates that impression of a look from the cowboys-and-Indians era. Make the room as rustic as possible, and you should be able to pull off the look quite well.
If you already have wooden flooring in your home it’s a great plus. If you are able to stain this flooring try to go for a darker wood finish. If you aren’t into the staining of the floor try great darker area rugs to place upon them. It will give that darker feel just by placing these upon the existing floor without having to touch them. Just make sure there are a touch of bright colors in the darker rug which you purchase for your flooring needs. It will make the rooms flow with style and warmth.
Native American designs are also easy to come by at area rug locations. They are great designs and will bring that southwestern feel into your home immediately when they are placed in them. Don’t be scared to bring an area rug into your home which you’d never choose before. Remember this is a different type of style and design which southerners bring into their homes and if you want that feel you have to take a few turns the opposite way.
While you have a lot of flexibility with regard to accessories for this theme, it’s recommended that you get at least a couple of color-matched pieces for every major color in the walls, flooring and area rug. Aside from those, silver and wood are the best materials to use for accessory pieces because they break up the visuals of the room quite well without attracting too much attention by themselves.
No matter which style in the southern design you choose it should always feel inviting and homey. You want this room to be something which screams at people and lets them know you’ve taken quite some time in decorating this room and it shows.

Outdoor furniture covers allow you to be passively proactive in increasing the lifespan of your patio furniture. Whether you live in a northern climate and need to protect you furniture from freezing rain and snow or in a hot southern country and need to protect your patio furniture from salt spray and a blistering sun, outdoor furniture covers will help keep your furniture looking like new.
The types of outdoor furniture that generally need to be covered are any type of painted furniture and specific types of unpainted furniture made out of hard wood or soft wood. Even expensive cedar furniture which fades to a silvery color can benefit from a bit protection from the elements, such as salt and snow. Without some good protection both of these types of furniture can age and deteriorate rapidly. Outdoor furniture covers are as varied as patio furniture is itself.
When you go shopping for outdoor furniture covers, you initially need to decide how often you will use the covers. It isn’t always necessary to use the covers every day or even every week. In some areas of the world it might be necessary to use the covers every other day, in other areas of the world you might only use the covers once every few weeks perhaps when you are out of town. In other areas of the world, you might use outdoor furniture covers once per year in preparation for winter. If you only intend to use the covers once in the autumn then the ease by which they are fastened is moderately unimportant.
If you live in a southern country, you are likely to have wooden patio furniture. As you are aware, a punishing tropical sun can strip a layer of finish off your chair in less than 10 months. In these hotter areas, I recommend covering up your patio tables and chairs any time that you think you might not use them for more than 2 days. You will also find it very helpful to the lifespan of your patio furniture if you pulled the furniture into a shaded are in your absence.
If you live in northern Europe, or Canada or the northern US, then you do not need to worry about the sun’s harmful UV rays. In these northern locales, the furniture need only be seriously protected during the harsh winter months. The particular types of covers needed for harsh winter protection need to be very durable so they can withstand snow and/or freezing rain.
As we all know, particular materials are tougher than others and you should take heed of this information when choosing outdoor furniture covers. Tarpaulins of all makes are likely the toughest materials around. Awful looking tarps will be replaced by a lovely layer of snow soon enough. Although considerably unattractive these tarps might be the most practical for covering up your patio furniture during the winter months.
In conclusion, there are a number of different things to consider when choosing outdoor furniture covers. If you carefully consider the amount you will actually need to use the covers then you will correctly choose the covers that are best for you.

A couch that turns into a bed in less than 2 minutes is an excellent idea especially for those who really do not have a lot of space to live in. Of course, when it comes to a futon there are always going to need to be some adjustments, and a new futon mattress is going to one of them. If you are having a hard time sleeping at night because of your mattress, it might be time to start looking for a new one!
Now, if you are just looking for the mattress, then you probably already have the actual futon frame. This is going to make your search a lot easier, as well as cost effective. The typical futon mattress should not cost you more than $100, and that is usually the price for the mattress and the frame.
Write down a few numbers that you have in mind when it comes time to buy. You should not have to spend a lot of money on your mattress because they are already designed to be cheap. If you find yourself looking at some that seem way too high in price, then chances are you could be getting ripped off.
The factory mattress that comes with your frame is probably paper thin, or at least it feels that way anyway. As soon as you feel your bed beneath you poking into your back; that is probably going to be an incredibly clear sign that you need a new mattress. Get a mattress that is a bit overstuffed so that you can feel like you are sleeping on an actual mattress.
If you have some extra money to spend then you might want to look into the foam futon mattresses. These will give you excellent for your back and joints. They will also allow you to get a full night’s sleep without any interruptions whatsoever. You can expect to pay about $150 for a mattress like this, so just keep your eyes peeled for a good deal.
Once you know what you want, it is all a matter of finding what you want and ordering it. The internet is going to be the best place to find your mattress, so take advantage and search around within your budget!

If youve grown tired with the look of the rooms in your home, consider a project redesign in the most used rooms in the house. Theres no need to spend a lot of money on achieving a new look. Sometimes, just changing around a few things or updating furnishings will work wonders in refreshing a room.
Sometimes a project redesign can be as simple as removing clutter from a room. When things pile up or are placed haphazardly about, they can bring the look of a room down. Interior design experts recommend attacking clutter by arming yourself with three boxes, one for things to keep, another for things to throw out or give to charity, and a third for undecided. Organize the things you are keeping by storing them away and then start fresh in decorating a room.
Some key components to a project redesign are incorporating artwork, adding plants, introducing new accessories, repainting walls with a new color scheme and changing the flooring.
How much of a project redesign you do in each room should be based on your budget. You might want to choose a few rooms where only some minor redecorating work is needed and save the majority of your budget for rooms that need a major revamp.
When planning an interior design project, professional design advice is valuable. These sites are also worthwhile because you gain access to a forum where you can get answers to your questions from professional interior designers.

Among the things that can create major change are repainting the walls, changing the style through accessories and furnishings, and selecting a different focal point. Use design tricks, like using slipcovers to give a fairly new sofa a new look, rather than buying new.
If you are considering a major project redesign, it might be best to use 3D home design software. Owning an outdoor chandelier hung effortlessly under the roof of a patio should greatly appeal to every home designer. As with indoor chandeliers, the outdoor variety appeals to the peace and quiet mood of a cool summer evening when you just want to sit around and relax. No phones. No hassles. Just relaxation at its finest.
Obviously indoor chandeliers can be used throughout the entire day because they are valuable sources of artificial lighting. In the outdoors, however, you only need to switch on the wonderful lights when it’s dark outside, and if you want to set a romantic mood. When you eat by chandelier inside, it takes on an fresh and soft romantic mood, as if by candlelight. Dining outdoors under chandelier lighting is great to experience.
Outdoor lighting is affordable. Prices in many sectors are decreasing and now is a superb time to consider a purchase. Of course there are the usual installment plans that the major home improvement stores offer, but you’ll find that many of the fixtures are very affordable.
These products range in price from $35 to $2900 depending on your budget and taste. A decent value would be somewhere in the middle (around $300-500). I personally choose the lower end of that range, but that’s just me!
A single $600 chandelier hanging effortlessly from your patio ceiling just makes it a fascinating evening to enjoy family and friends over a few laughs and some neighborhood gossip. So, you can plan a romantic evening under the chandelier later when those family and friends have gone home.
If you have a walk out porch or patio, you are a prime candidate for buying a chandelier. An enclosed porch is best for mosquito control reasons. You could complement the outdoor lighting by installing some matching lamp posts. It would add a little more lighting and a tad bit of charm for the patio.
Outdoor chandeliers are a must buy if you own your own home. They’re quaint, attainable, and romantic.

If you want to build a carport that is attached to your house you might need to build a lean to carport which is also called a single slope carport. These types of carports allow for rain drainage and will allow ice and snow to melt and runoff evenly. Carports that need to fit in a small space generally can only be a lean to carport (single slope carport) or a flat roof carport.
Any carport with either a gable roof or shed roof might not work for a few reason reasons. The first reason is space available to build the carport. Both shed roof carports and gable roof carports need considerably larger space to be at a proper angle for water runoff and to look proportional to the height of the walls. Any less than a certain minimum amount of space just won’t work. You simply can’t crunch gable roof carports into small spaces. Another reason is aesthetic. The flow of the roof lines may look awkward. A strong delineation between house and carport takes away from the attractiveness of your house. You want your home and new carport to look as though they blend together naturally. A carport that looks stuck to the side of your house as an afterthought will not bring any satisfaction.
Lean to carports or single slope car carports tend to look more natural and blended into your home than a flat roof carport. Matching the pitch of the roofs is very important. If the roof lines march then the two roofs look like they are meant to be together. If you are considering adding a carport that has a roof at a different angle than the angle on the roof on your home do yourself a big favor. Take a picture of your current home and print off two copies. Draw a carport addition with the same pitch roof as your house and then draw a carport addition with a different pitch than the pitch of your house. The difference in appearance is clear to see.
Flat roof carports have one distinct advantage over other types of carports. A flat roof carport can be used as a deck or a screened in porch. For some people a flat roof carport provides an irresistible advantage. Changing a second story window into a doorway is a reasonably inexpensive and simple task. A contractor could probably do the job in a few days. In order to support a deck or any type of second story structure the supporting posts in the carport would need to be able to be strong enough to handle an extra load. An experienced contractor would be able to help you figure out the new load.
You don’t need to make the roof into a deck right away. Perhaps you don’t have the money to make a deck this year. If you think you might consider utilizing the top of the flat roof in the future then you need to calculate the potential load and build the supporting posts accordingly.
In conclusion, think seriously about what type of carport roof is suitable for your family. Consider location and purpose. Once the carport is constructed you will have to look at it for a long time. A lean to carport or a single slope carport might suit your needs best.

The economy is horrible people are losing jobs and you’re bored with the look of your home! Well you can still redecorate even though you may not have a bunch of money. Go about it in the right way, and you can have a fantastic new look in your home for pennies.
One of the best ways to go about changing around your decor when you have little money is to take what you have and add just a bit of new or used things to the mix. Create a totally different look from what you’ve ever seen. Changes around the furniture in the room instead of all straight and sleek looking will help the look of the room.

Expensive items can still be places near cheaper ones, though, provided that the cheaper items are classics or in good taste. Simple furniture pieces with clean lines, for example, are relatively cheap at the store yet will fall right at home with brand-name decor. Plainer items that have a more elegant look to be very versatile design pieces as well.

This to make sure that whatever items you get will fit into the spaces intended for them. Dining table rugs, for example, should be large enough to accommodate the whole set – table, chairs and all – to minimize the wear from chairs getting removed and put back onto the rug area.
